Description
Though we call them Pansies, they are anything but fragile. One of the toughest flowers, Pansies are perfect in a cold climate or warm. They come packed with history, folklore, symbolism and beauty.
Pansies are derived from viola species.
Color influences the message. Blue means Ill always be true, faithful and watchful, whereas white means lets take a chance.
Several states and cities have chosen the violet or pansy to represent them. The common blue violet is the state flower of Rhode Island, Illinois and New Jersey, while Wisconsin chose the wood violet. Osaka, Japan has the pansy as its chosen city flower.
The pansy is the symbol of free thought and the reason lies in both the flowers name and appearance. The pansy derives its name from the French word pens which means thought
In German folklore, pansies were called stepmother because the large lower petal is the mother, the two large petals to either side of her are the well-dressed daughters, and the two small upper petals are poor stepdaughters.
According to someone, pansy leaves, which are heart shaped, were used to cure a broken heart. I doubt that will work, but my painting might help.
In 1926, Georgia OKeeffe created a famous painting of a black pansy called simply, Pansy. She followed with White Pansy in 1927. D. H. Lawrences Pansies: Poems by D. H. Lawrence was published in 1929. Lisa Kaiser's Pansy Pleasure was created today on 3/9/2016. You can have the original for 100.00, but the prints on Fineartamerica are simply beautiful!

Clearly, Pansies and Violas have played a major role in human activity for centuries. But, for most of us, what we love about these beautiful flowers is their vibrant colors.
